JOELLE HASNA

I’m Joelle, the founder and mixed-media artist behind Shots and Shades.

For me, photography has always been more than capturing a beautiful image. It is about preserving a feeling, a person, a story or a moment that we want to hold onto. Painting allows me to take that captured moment one step further, adding colour, emotion and imagination to create something truly personal.

With a Master’s degree in Graphic Design and more than 15 years of experience in the creative industry, I have developed my own artistic approach of transforming black-and-white photographs into vibrant mixed-media artworks, where photography and painting become part of the same story.

Since founding Shots and Shades in 2021, I have brought this approach into personalized family and maternity artworks, fine art, creative products, and photography-based creative experiences for children, schools and aged-care communities.

My artistic work has received international recognition, including certificates from the Luxembourg Art Prize for two consecutive years.

Now based in South Australia, I continue to grow Shots and Shades with a belief that sits at the heart of everything I create:

My work lives between photography and painting, between what has been captured and what can still be imagined. This is where I find colour, emotion, and the possibility of telling a story in a different way.
